Course Description
This course is intended for students who wish to study in depth the federal and state constitutions. It will include a look at the historical context in which the documents were written and adopted, reading and understanding the document with a focus on formatting, the basic principles embedded, the governments they create-their structure, powers and their functions-and of course, the substantive and procedural rights enumerated. Students will examine state and federal court cases and how the judiciary has applied the constitution to the circumstances of the case. Along with this basic knowledge, students will study how a legal persuasive argument is constructed and delivered in oral arguments. Throughout the course, students will be given cases in which they will need to role play an attorney and render a sound legal argument or a judge and deliver a sound legal decision. For academic success, participation in class and class activities is required. Scholars considering a future in the field of law, government service, social advocacy, journalism, public relations or analytics should find the course valuable. NCAA Approved. |
